artist statement
Patrick Primeau:
Glass embodies freedom for me. There is great liberty in the work approach and in the material’s desired appearance. The malleable nature of glass is central to my creative process. This quality enables it to embrace both the geometric and organic shapes I chose to give it. If the limitations are many, so too can they be overcome. This very nature enables me to evolve constantly in my relation to the medium and to experience its ever-changing reaction to me. Clear, opaque, smooth or textured, a metamorphosis of glass that borrows shapes and colours from my ideas and moods yet remains ever faithful to itself. To work molten glass becomes a silent exercise in understanding between artist and matter.
Caroline Ouellette:
How can the sensuality of molten glass be captured and conveyed in a cold piece? This question is at the heart of my creative process. A way to create objects that invites you to taste them, objects that demand to be touched again and again. Flavouring glass using sensuous shapes that bend, twist and flow. Oozing torrents of tiny grains of form brimming with maturity erupt, like ripe fruits bursting with sweet nectars. Warmed by autumn hues and cooled by a breeze that tickles the skin with a shiver.
A veil of light for the eyes.
